Tech N9ne has been called a weirdo, a mainstream sellout, a devil-worshiper, and merely an underground cultish phenomenon--but the truth is--he is one of the finest musicians of our era. "Special Effects" is a masterpiece with fine tuned production quality, dynamic vocal delivery, stimulating lyrics with tight rhyme patterns, experimental beats, and all star guest collaborations. Brief description of the songs:
Awe Yeah - 10/10 very intricate technical rap flow, rapping about real life issues/tragedies, church choir background beat
Lacrimosa - 9/10 somewhat strange/experimental production: church choir with dubstep effects, notably aggressive and intriguing vocal delivery
On the Bible - 10/10 big beat gangsta bravado, great attitude in this song, fun to crank up the volume on this song
Shroud - 9.5/10 spooky, eerie, disturbing beat with distorted vocals, aggresive tone and horror-flick feel to this song
Psycho B. III - 9.5/10 cool song, variety of different vocal deliveries and beat change-ups, Hopsin delivers a memorable verse
Wither - 10/10 wow! epic song, heart-felt/somber/down-to-earth beginning, build up to aggressive/fast-paced mash-up, Corey Taylor rocks this song
Hood go Crazy - 9/10 fun song, provides balance to the grittiness of the album, 2 Chains provides a fun verse, B.O.B. beat/hook is good enough
Back Asswards - 9/10 another fun song, beat is very cool, Tech raps interesting and plays with spoonerisms, guest collabs are forgettable but the beat is interesting enough to hold listener attention
No K - 9/10 very fun beat, both Tech and E-40 provide levity with lyrics and vocal delivery
Speedom - 10/10 wow! fast-paced/rapid-fire vocal delivery, highly technical flow patterns, the beat is phenomenal blend of classic guitar and dubstep modern production, Eminem's 24 bar verse is filled with tight rhyme patterns, shock-jock lyrics, and chopper style speed, Tech and Krizz absolutely rock this song as well!
Give it All - 10/10 wow! old fashion Lenny Kravitz feel to the beat, Tech dominates lyrically/vocal delivery, Audio Push does not disappoint
Yates - 10/10 wow! Tech gives an aggressive/gritty vocal delivery, strong rhymes and word-play, In-your-face attitude makes for a cool song, third verse by Marcus Yates could have been more intriguing though
A Certain Comfort - 9/10 pop song feel, beautiful female voice on chorus, Tech raps moderate pace delivery about life issues
Burn it Down - 9/10 pop song feel with dubstep effects, Ryan Bradley chorus is catchy, Tech raps moderate pace delivery about life issues
Life Sentences - 8.5/10 feels like a mackelmore song... maybe... not bad though, Tech, Joey Cool, and Gee Watts sound well together
Dyin' Flyin' - 10/10 epic song, operatic feel, piano, choir, big stompin' beat, cool production work
Worldly Angel - 9/10 works well as an outro to tie the album together thematically, Tech raps about his mother, the beat has 70's pop/rock feel
Road Kill - 8.5/10 dubstep beat, wish the song was longer and more epic, still cool electronica feel and Tech delivers, should have been 5 minute song instead of 3 minutes though

I am a Tech N9ne Fan and I approve of this album! There is so much different about this album compared to others but so much that is great. I enjoy the fact that each album is something different and not more of the same from Tech. Some will say that he's trying to hard and going main stream when he has features with B.O.B, TI, Eminem, Hopsin, 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, etc, but that is simply not the case. Like Tech said, "Tech will never go main stream, main stream will go Tech. I've enjoyed Eminem since his early days and was stoked to finally here a collaboration from Tech and Em, 15 years in the making. Don't care what anyone says, I love Tech's music, old and new.

Anyone who likes Tech knows he's one of the most phenomenal "all most but not quite mainstream" guys out there, this album perfectly showcases the talent he's been fine tuning for last few years as well as what makes him so affable... the team spirit he's got going on. The collaborations he threw together on here are nothing short of awesome, and the dramatic differences between pieces is something you can't help but be somewhat in awe of.

Without getting overly wordy, I'll just leave it at this, if you're a fan of Tech already, get the album, no way you'll be disappointed, if you're not a fan yet, get the album, that will change.

Pros: Love the beats! The lyrics take me back to the late 90's when rap actually had talented rappers and not one trick ponies.
I recommend listening to tracks; Worldly Angel, Dyin'Flyin, Burn it Down, Life Sentence, Give It All, Speedom, and Hood Go Crazy.

Cons: Album lacked talented artist from groups !Mayday!, and CES CRU. Songs with Lil Wayne, and T.I were probably the worst songs on the album, Tech would have been better off putting one his ridiculously talented artist instead of those two.

Summary: Best album since Killer with Something Else right behind it, if you like true hip hop music, you're going to love this album, I guarantee it!

Saw Tech on SKEE TV and he was saying he thought this one was his best ever. I was thinking, "C'mon, with all the great Tech music in the past, now THIS is the best ever??" After just a couple listens, I have to say this is at least as good as his best stuff. Lots to love here. Some very heavy stuff, especially Wither. Some of Tech's usual humor on tracks like No K. Lots of guest spots, tons of creative rhymes, and the usual dose of rapid-fire Tech N9ne skills.

Looking forward to seeing Tech on tour with Murs soon!

Another great work by Tech N9ne. It was cool to see him work with some new people - like Eminem. But I'm not a fan of skits and Special Effects had five of them. I want music not filler. Overall though, Tech is still killin' it.

I really liked how different this music sounded that's why I downloaded it to listen to!
There's was nothing that I disliked about it!
I used it for staying awake while driving on long trips in car.

The sound quality is insane. But I wouldn't expect anything less from Tech N9ne and Strange Music. I've had Special Effects since it's release and to hear it on vinyl is breathtaking. Very pleased with this purchase.

If you love Tech then this is a must buy! The album has some great tracks on it and the list of featured guests is great. He finally got his dream collaborations with Eminem and Corey Taylor! I have listened to most of techs albums and I think this is one of his best.

Vier Sterne wäre No K
